Boring
Erie Forge & Steel is unsurpassed in its boring capabilities. Our high-power, precision boring lathes enable deeper and faster boring operations while exceeding industry standards for wall thickness variation, dimensional control, surface finish, and runout.
The facility includes four boring lathes capable of operating up to 70 feet in one direction. These machines can accommodate diameters up to 30 inches, with additional equipment allowing for larger diameters and part weights of up to 100 tons. Current tooling supports bore sizes ranging from 6 inches to 18 inches, including tapered bores.
In addition, Erie Forge & Steel operates one honing machine capable of up to 33.5 feet in one direction. This hone can handle diameters up to 80 inches and part weights of at least 60 tons.

Heat Treating

Our horizontal heat-treating furnaces are calibrated and controlled in accordance with MIL-STD-1684, ensuring precise and consistent thermal processing.
Erie Forge & Steel operates four large horizontal furnaces designed to fully encapsulate parts for uniform heat treatment. This includes two smaller furnaces measuring 7' × 7' × 52' and two larger furnaces measuring 5' × 5' × 71'.
In addition, the facility utilizes two portable furnaces for localized heat treatment of weld repairs. Each unit is 8 feet long and can be operated in tandem, with an approximate heating capacity of 5' × 5' × 8'.
Welding
Our welding team holds numerous government certifications and supports one of the industry’s most comprehensive sets of qualified welding procedures, enabling compliance with a broad range of government specifications.
